Voters across the state will go to the polls on Tuesday, June 2, for the primary election. Only voters who have declared their parties, either Republican or Democrat, will cast a ballot.
Polls will be open from 7 am. until 9 pm. Due to COVID-19, there will be only two polling locations: Clover Hall, Greene County Fairgrounds, and Greene County middle school gym, both in Jefferson.
On the Republican ballot, there is a major contest for the U.S. House District 4 seat. Incumbent Steve King is facing a strong challenge by Randy Feenstra, Steven Reeder, Bret A Richards and Jeremy Taylor. King, the incumbent, has been limited this term after his comments were deemed offensive and he was removed from most committee assignments.
On the Democratic ticket is J. D. Scholten who gave King a strong challenge in the 2018 election.
Joni Ernst has no Republican challengers for U.S. senator but the Democrats are running four candidates: Michael Franken, Kimberly Graham, Theresa Greenfield, Eddie J Mauro. Cal Woods’ name appears on the ballot but he has removed himself from the race.
Jerry Behn is not a candidate for re-election for state senator in District 24. On the Republican ticket are candidates Chad Behn, Joshua D Dyer, Jesse Green and Todd Rasmussen. The Democrats will vote on Cynthia Oppendal Paschen and Keith D Puntenney. For state representative District 47, Republican Phil Thompson is seeking re-election. The Democratic candidate is Shelly L Stotts.
Locally there are no contests in the primary election, There are contests for the supervisor districts but the battle will be waged in the November 2020 general election. ~courtesy of The Scranton Journal
